Certainly your listing explains the counting. Only thing I can add is my observation. I asked for the files once, only. Tha latter one (no. 4) was never realised as the "todays limit reached" message appeared. Maybe something to do with my computer set-up, but I doubt it. Nevertheless some explanation does exist. Anyway, we'll better leave the subject for now, if not others gets confronted with a similar problem.

And I'll see if there are any improvements that can be made to the site software so that this feature becomes more transparent.

Some research has also shown that users navigating with IE (Microsoft's Internet Explorer) may double count the download a file from if the site not in the users's trusted zone. Here is some further information on this here. Unfortunately it does not offer a solution. My only suggestion is for IE users to place www.ExcelCalcs.com in their trusted zone to avoid the problem altogether.

Here's how it happens to me.

Often I look through the available spreadsheets to search for new ones and updates. Since I've already downloaded several files, I certainly don't want to duplicate. Problem is, some filenames.ext aren't listed within the titles.

For instance: "AISC-ASD89 calculation for Beam-Column member"

In looking through my downloaded files, I see that I haven't downloaded a file of that name, so I'd like to take a look at it. Upon clicking on the title, I find that the actual file name is "ASD89", which is a file I already downloaded. So I cancel the download, but I think your counter has already been triggered . . . so it counts as a download.

I take your point. Generally I give the subject title the same name as the Excel filename but I know that there are exceptions to this general rule particularly if the calculation is uploaded by someone who wanted to use a subject title that is different to the Excel filename.

The easiest way to keep up to date with your downloads is to use 'Forum links' and the 'subscribe' buttons in the forum (for the past few month I have been adding them on the download page too). Then if the calculation is updated then you will be sent an email informing you of the update. Similarly if anyone raises a query about a calculation you'll receive an email about this too.

I'm not certain you understand my point. Having no complaints about titles or confusion over how to stay current with downloads, I merely offer you an example of how the daily download count might increase even without a download.

And with that, maybe the site could be adjusted so that the counter is incremented after a download, rather than before.
