I have noticed that there are a lot of good spreadsheetss on this forum. Alex Tomanovich spreadsheets are probably the best that a young structural engineer can review for steel design. hence i think this site also needs some spreadsheets linking to other software that are avaliable to download freely for discussion/review.

My first site i would like to refreance is Doug Jenkins (this is not me hence i only referance not distribute), has some very intresting spreadsheets for anyone using Strand 7.

www.interactiveds.com.au/

under free software demo he has a two spreadsheets that interface with other programs. this is where VBA comes in handy and i believe any engineer should know that it is possible to use VBA (i am unsure about Excel)to link the excels data abilities with programs such as microstran, spacegas, strand 7 ect. This allows the genration of complex models from standard spreadsheets.

We love Doug's work here at ExcelCalcs. In fact I used his LOGINTERP() function earlier today in this spreadsheet. I had tried fitting all varients of trendlines to interpolate over some data but this was the only way I could get it to work adequately.

We have featured Doug on a site news item too. Please recommend any other authors and websites which broadly help Excel to make calculations. Thanks timmythetank.

This could take a while,

Well i Believe some of the best spreadsheets produced are from the concrete design (unforutnaetly limited to the eurocode) are by "The concrete centre" aka UK cement and concrete ass.

This link has a few of the spreadsheets for free.

www.concretecentre.com/main.asp?page=1620

I think these would have been better if they had of used excelcals Addin. however these are good examples of excel doing the job over programs.

I have tried to attached one of the spreadsheets RCC62 retaining walls (if this didn't work refer to the link above, you will have to register to get the spreadsheets, was free last time i checked). I believe this one in particular is the best RW spreadsheets running around. Allows for quick chages in design without much change of input, so you can eveluate the design to find the worst action effect if it isn't standing out.

Wow they seem to be very well produced spreadsheets. I am not much of a concrete man (being a mechanical engineer) but I can see the value in these spreadsheets. I am a little unsure about the use of the spreadsheets as there is a warning on the page saying:
Please be aware that anyone who attempts to register for a license or downloads any of the above files without purchasing the product will be invoiced for the full amount of the product. RC Spreadsheets V3 costs 100 + VAT per individual and 500 + VAT per company address.

Well worth a look though. Thanks for the suggestion and please keep them coming if you find any more out there.

sorry john when i got my copy (version 2) they were free, they must have decided to start to charging people in version 3.

My next spreadsheet is a company developed sheet from the web site below.

www.tycowater.com/water/news

This is good for pipe design but not the best layout ever and it uses tyco flow design manual which you get form the marketing office in any major city, thus not very good to anyone outside australia. but referance for each page backck to the manaul is really good for the first/only timmer such as myself.

And I nearly forgot these guys. they developed one of the best crane rail design spreadsheet around, again for BS codes.

www.technouk.com/

And you will be happy this time, I have checked and they are still free!
