Excel Start in manual mode for Workbook Calculation 2 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
Every time I start Excel the Workbook Calculation is set to "manual".
I tried saving the workbook when set to Automatic, as Excel should remember the last state.
Nothing helped until I disabled XLC addin. After that Excel started behaving normally.

Toggling XLC addins "Auto XLC" does not have any effect.

Any suggestions?
Does XLC addin run any macro on startup?
Does XLC addin change excel template workbook?

XLC 15.03.16 on Excel 2007 @Win 7 64bit.

Hi Priit well the short answer to your question is yes XLC runs some code every time you open a work book. It does this to make sure that XLC functions are correctly referenced (currently the functions live in the addin but older workbooks reference an external function library which is now only used in the toolbar version of the program).

When the code is executed the first thing it does is save the workbook calculation setting. Then it sets it to manual and runs some code (as it runs quicker in the manual calculation mode). Once the code is run it sets it back to the saved setting.

I am going to run a few checks on this Priit to double check that everything is working as we intend it to.

I can't reproduce the problem here but I can introduce some error trapping that would make the code more robust. Would you like to send me your spreadsheet and I'll see if I can reproduce your error and see if the error trapping solves the problem?

As a work around you can also disable the XLC addin using Excel> Options> Addins and run the addins manager. Un-checking XLC will disable the workbook open code.

This problem occurs with every excel workbook (blank ones , new). Is there any point sending a blank workbook?

As I wrote in first message, "disable the XLC addin " did the trick.

But I would like to use the XLC addin and also would like to have automatic calculation turned on

I uninstalled XLC.
Excel started with calculations automatic.
Reinstalled XLC and Excel turned to manual mode again.
I did not open any old workbooks, just new ones.
