Registering Problem on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit 1 Year, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
I have downloadeded XLC. anytime i try installing i get this error message 'Unable to register the DLL/OCX: Redsvr32 failed with the exit code 0x5.'

I'm running MS Office 2010 Professional Plus on Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit Operating system.

I also tried registering manually by following the instructions in the read me, but get this error "The module "XLC.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80004005". I have attached a screenshot of the error. Thanks.

Recently I had some correspondence with another Windows 7 user who also struggled to install XLC. He managed to resolve the problem and I wondered if you could check out his solution?

Hi John,

I was logged in as an administrator, but after a fair bit of research on the net I realised it wasn't working because of the User Account Settings - apparently being an administrator isn't enough in Windows 7.

For your reference, I went to 'control panel', then 'User Accounts', then 'Change User Account Control Settings' and slid the bar all the way to the bottom, (down to never notify). When I restarted as prompted and followed your manual registration steps it worked.

How changing notification levels affected my ability to register I do not know, (it threw me off for ages actually - I didn't change it because I didn't think it would alter anything) but it must do more then adjust notification levels as it suggests.

A google search on "DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80004005" showed this page which also seems to point at User Account Control Settings.

Did your computer give any error messages? In the previous case the error code 0x80004005 pointed us towards administrator rights and User Account Control Settings.

The error messages are the same as in previous posts mentioned: 'Unable to register the DLL/OCX: Redsvr32 failed with the exit code 0x5.'
My operation system is 64bit - is it possible that has something to do with it?

There is no problems installing the software on any 64 bit version of windows provided that you have a 32 bit version of Excel. There is currently only one 64 bit version of Excel 2010 but it is only used by users manageing very large datasets and even Microsoft recommend that you install the 32 bit version of Excel 2010.

From what I have read 'Unable to register the DLL/OCX: Redsvr32 failed with the exit code 0x5.' arises because you need administrator rights to run the program. May I suggest you follow these instructions:
    Download XLC.
Extract the zip into a folder on your hard drive.
Right click on the file "setup.exe" and select "Run as Administrator"

Hopefully this will work but please get back if it does not.
