Request for additional functionality 3 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 2
Hi John,

The majority of structural calculations I undertake are for ultimate limit state. Design actions are generally denoted by using the superscript '*'. Unfortunately, XLC treats the '*' symbol in variables names as a multiplication operation and renders accordingly.

Is it possible to extend the rendering capabilities of XLC so that it detects if a '*' symbol is used in a variable name (and if it is super scripted) and render them correctly? I currently use the superscript '#' as a work-around however having support for the '*' symbol in variable names would make presentation of the calculations even nicer.

I thought I should post this on the forum to see if the above would benefit/effect any other users.

Keep up the great work.

Regards Jake

As you have hinted at "*" is a pretty special character and I can't think of a quick fix to resolve your problem. However I can recommend that you take a good look at all the alternative characters that are available for you to use.

Thanks John.

The Arabic five point star seems to work quite nice.

Any chance of a keyboard shortcut such as |066D or something similar could be added in a future XLC release?

Regards Jake

Thankfully Windows has already given us a shortcut:
Alt +66D Hold down the alt key then "+", then "6", then "6", then "D" and release the alt key.

I had some problems with the previous character it seemed to be the same as "*" and XLC was confused by it. How about trying the following:

Windows shortcut Alt +02DF (don't forget to type the "+" key)
