            <description>As far as Excel is concerned an XLC named cell is just a cell containing some formatted text. This data is not lost when it is saved.

As far as Excel is concerned XLC equations are simply graphics and again this data is not lost when it is saved.

Unless I can reproduce the error you experienced I cannot debug it but I really cannot see how XLC has given rise to your file corruption issue.</description>

I managed to open the file with a few errors. I can see that you have been using XLC so I redrew equations on a couple of worksheets. I was a little surprised to see that you have not been using XLC name functions to generate algebraic equations. Your numeric equations appeared well enough though.

I saved my work which re-opened without errors (see attached).

I had originally set the criteria for the use of top reinforcing in the footing base to be for either the case with uplift load on the footing pier and/or for the case when there is no soil cover (D = 0) over the top of the footing.  The worksheet was providing top reinforcing when an uplift load was input.  However, for the special case of no uplift load along with no soil cover, the worksheet was showing the top reinforcing = 0, when there should have been a calculated value &gt; 0. 

I have made the necessary corrections.

Metric units are used for input, and those values are automatically converted back to English units for the actual analysis.  Then the results, which are calculated in English units, are converted back to metric units for display on the calculation page. 

Also, since a few people had asked me about it, I added some information at the bottom of the &quot;DOC&quot; worksheet describing how the user can manually implement an iterative solution to account for P-Delta (&quot;Big&quot; Delta) effects (2nd order) on the columns of a frame.</description>

            <description>I made a few changes and additions to the &quot;FLRPLATE.xls&quot; spreadsheet workbook for the analysis of floor plate. 

Several people had asked about why the allowable bending stress, Fb, was limited to 16 ksi in the Floor Plate Bending Capacity table in the AISC Manual.  The answer is best explained in the article &quot;Are You Properly Specifying Materials?&quot; by Charlie J. Carter, S.E., P.E. from &quot;Modern Steel Construction&quot; magazine, January 2004 (as follows): 

Raised-Pattern Floor Plates 
ASTM A786 is the standard specification for rolled steel floor plates.  As floor plate design is seldom controlled by strength considerations, ASTM A786 &quot;Commercial Grade&quot; commonly is specified.  If so, per ASTM A786 Section 5.1.2, &quot;the product will be supplied 0.33 percent maximum carbon and without specific mechanical properties&quot;.  Alternatively, if a defined strength level is desired, ASTM A786 raised-pattern floor plate can be ordered to a defined plate specification, such as ASTM A36, A572, or A588; see ASTM A786 Sections 8 and Appendix Table X1.1. 

In order for the worksheet to be able to create a calculation which would reflect the values in the AISC Manual table, I added the user input asking if the allowable bending stress is to be limited to 16 ksi or not.  I also added a couple of comment boxes as well as a couple of visible notes on the calculation page pertaining to simulating one-way action and plate yield stress.

I have made the necessary cell referencing corrections pertaining to only the cylinders.  The other shapes were fine. 

While I was at it, I decided to expand the capability of the &quot;Stress&quot; worksheet in this workbook.  Before, the worksheet only allowed the user to determine the combined stress at one point within the cross section at a time.  I have expanded that now so that the worksheet can calculate and display the stress results for up to six (6) points at one time.  I also added a cautionary note to remind the user to make sure that the points to be investigated are actually within the given cross section.

            <description>In the worksheet for &quot;Stacks &amp; Tanks&quot; of the &quot;ASCE705W.xls&quot; spreadsheet workbook, I revised the method for determining the fundamental period.  The worksheet now uses ASCE 7-05 Equation C6-22a on page 294 of Chapter 6 of the Commentary for the natural frequency of a cantilever beam of uniform cross-section.   
That formula is f = 0.56/h^2*SQRT(E*I/m).  The inverse of the frequency value is then taken to arrive at the period, &quot;T&quot;.  Also of note, this same formula is used in the Fluor Structural Guideline 000.215.1215, &quot;Wind Load Calculation&quot;. 

In the past, I had been using the rather simplistic and approximate formula from ASCE 7-05 of T = Ct*h^(3/4) for the period.  The main issue with having used this formula is that there is no accounting for varying the diameter (width) of a vessel in determining the period.   

Also, I have corrected some minor &quot;typo&quot; errors in a few of the worksheets

I also added a visible note which appears in bold, red text whenever the value of (phi)Vs is controlled by the allowable maximum value. 

Also, in the &quot;Biaxial&quot; worksheet and under the heading of &quot;Tie Min. Size &amp; Max. Spac:&quot;, the program was supposed to be only referencing the input cells for the longitudinal bar sizes in Cells D18 and D20.  However, it was also inadvertently referencing Cell D19, which pertains to the total number of side reinforcing bars. 

I have made the necessary corrections to the above mentioned items. 

While I was at it, I decided to add a new worksheet to this workbook.  The  &quot;Slenderness (Sidesway)&quot; worksheet can be used to analysis the slenderness effects for a single, unbraced column subject to sidesway.  This worksheet is very well suited for the quick slenderness analysis of a pier of a foundation, where there is either no supporting soil around the pier or where the soil is considered inadequate to provide continuous lateral support for the pier. 

This workbook is now version 1.3.</description>
