How did you graph the equation? 4 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Hi, love the animation feature. It raised a question. For the example video, how did you graph an equation? Did you list out all the numbers and then graph them or is there a way to graph an equation across a range?

This may not belong under XLC issues but it sure got me thinking. I could not find any easy way to graph an equation.

Scott you could check out this Video 2 - How to Present Great Calculations in Microsoft Excel (5 min 10secs).

One side of the template is arranged as a grid for presentation and the right hand side is arrange as any other worksheet. Using the XLC template I arrange all the formulae in one column and present the formulae in this area. Then I simply copy the column into a number of other columns on the right hand side to produce a table of calculations. I change an input parameter moving from column to column and plot it against a calculated value.

I hope this makes sense. I have uploaded the calculation that I used to make the animation too Forced Vibration of a single degree of freedom system.xls

Thanks John, that is the way I have been doing it too. There is a way to graph an equation across a range without making the grid of points. I made some progress last night but have not been able to make it work. It involves naming or defining cell ranges but it looked like as much work as just building a matrix and plotting it.

Scott it sounds like you might be able to teach this dog some new tricks - it doesn't ring any bells with me. As you say its so easy to create a table of results and plot it I am not sure if we need another method.
