Certainly all the problems are associated with incorrect installation of two XLC files XLC.dll and XLC.xll. You try a manual installation of XLC by following the instructions here then you could let me know how you get on.

I am having exactly the same issues as the other user in installing XLC. I have tried following the manual installation instructions but with no luck. When I try to use Tools->Add-Ins, it says that XLC.xll is not a valid add-in.

I am using Windows XP and Office 2003.

I finally gave up and deleted / uninstalled all of the files. it created more problems than what it was worth.
