Being the first one to post on this board it seems apt to give a short introduction.

I am a left handed, colour blind, mechanical engineer. I use various software packages and expert systems but
a large part of my job is to produce and check hand calculations.
Excel is boss as far as I'm concerned, the greatest spreadsheet program ever. XLC just makes it better.

Anyway enough of the Guff. This site is fairly new but growing fast so this should be a great place to swap ideas, give tips or just shoot the breeze. I intend to visit here on a regular basis, hopefully others will do likewise and we can build a great community here.....

Great Idea!
I mean having a miscellaneous area.

As stated in my private mail to John Boyle appreciating his work, I am a great fan of Excel.
I use it like a Swiss Army Knife for anything and everything and would be lost without it.
I was a power user several years ago but now that my hair has grown grey, I no longer get the chance to use it the way it should be used.
I now get to use it for the routine and mundane tasks.

I welcome this opportunity to interact with other users of Excel.

You can expect to see more postings from me in this area.
I like to discuss not just Excel, but just about anything in the world.

I think his name is John Doyle, but I'm sure he won't mind being called Boyle or maybe even Boil. In fact I'm thinking of calling him that myself from now on (only joking John...although please feel free to ask if you want me to use that name).

I use excel pretty extensively for hand calcs (mostly mechanical/structural and thermal design). In fact I very rarely pick up a pocket calculator these days (Excel is probably the best calculator you could ever have anyway). As well as the more run of the mill calculations and other mundane tasks, I have also used it for importing and procesing data logger files and for finite difference calculations (using VBA and the iteration option to get around the circular references). I also once wrote a VBA application for one of my university professors who was doing a little decorating in his bathroom and wanted the distribution of patterned tiles to have a random feel.

My hair isn't grey yet but it's only a matter of time.

Anyway look forward to hearing from you (and anyone else for that matter)

Thanks Dave for pointing it out and sorry John for this faux pas.
I hope my transgression is minor and that forgiveness comes readily and easily to the Doyle clan.

I take some consolation from the fact that Boyle is a famous Scientist's name and fondly hope that you will perhaps feel flattered rather than offended.

The error involved just one letter.
Not that I am trying to gloss over my error.
A typo is a typo.
I would have hated being called Fish instead of Vish.
