Jeff the problem seems to be with the use of cell names. Your cell equation is: "=0.3*SQRT(OVD(E_Beam)/UND(Fy_Beam))"
E_Beam and Fy_Beam are cell names but need to be cell references to work with XLC. I hope this helps.

It seems odd that the OVD/UND function does not work in this cell with cell names when it works fine with cells E284, E139, etc.

Its probably a bit of an oversight on my part because I rarely name cells but I understand that lots of people do. I'll give this some further thought and possibly add it to my XLC 'to do' list. Thanks for your feedback.
