Pac-Man is a classic arcade video game developed by Namco and first released in Japan in 1980. The game quickly gained popularity and became one of the most successful and influential video games of all time. Pac-Man was designed by Toru Iwatani and was distributed in the United States by Midway Games.

The game features a simple premise: the player controls Pac-Man, a yellow character shaped like a circle with a wedge-shaped mouth, through a maze filled with small dots called 'pac-dots' and larger flashing dots called 'power pellets.' The goal is to navigate Pac-Man through the maze to eat all the pac-dots while avoiding four colorful ghost characters (Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde) that pursue Pac-Man.

When Pac-Man consumes a power pellet, the ghosts temporarily turn blue and become vulnerable, allowing Pac-Man to eat them for extra points. Once all the pac-dots and power pellets are eaten, the player advances to the next level, which features a new maze layout and increased difficulty. The game continues with increasing levels of difficulty until the player loses all their lives.

Pac-Man was highly influential in the video game industry and has been ported to numerous platforms, including home consoles, handheld devices, and mobile phones. The game has spawned numerous sequels, spin-offs, and adaptations, as well as inspired countless other video games. The iconic character of Pac-Man and the gameplay mechanics have become a symbol of early video game culture and are widely recognized around the world.
