If you have Administrator rights on your PC =========================================== If you are upgrading first uninstall your existing version of XLC (Start>Programs>XLC>Uninstall XLC). Install XLC by running "setup.exe". When you next start MS Excel you will see the XLC toolbar: Excel 2007 Users - Look on the ribbon under "Add-Ins". Excel 2003 to Excel 2000 users - XLC appears as a toolbar (by default it is visible but if you can't find it check Excel's main menu View>Toolbars>XLC Tools). For a quick start go to the on-line help tutorials and you'll be displaying mathematical equations in Excel in less than 10 minutes (http://www.excelcalcs.com/help-and-tutorials/). If you require an administrator to install your software ======================================================== Ask your administrator to install XLC following the instructions above. IMPORTANT: To set the computer up for your user account he will also need to run "XLC User Setup.exe". Trouble-shooting ================ Most people will not have any problems installing XLC but in case you have any difficulties here is an explanation of the install process and 10 checks you can perform to help diagnose any faults. If you have run through the 10 checks and still have problems we will be very keen to hear from you through the support forum you may have found a problem that we are not aware of (http://www.excelcalcs.com/forum/xlc-issues/) There are two files Excel needs to have access to for XLC to run successfully A) XLC.dll (this is the toolbar component). B) XLC.xll (this contains special XLC functions). You will find both files in the install directory (Default C:\program files\XLC\) PART 1 - Check XLC.dll installation =================================== Follow these instructions to register manually: 1) goto start button and select "run" 2) type in "cmd" this will get up a command prompt window. 3) navigate to the xlc install directory (use "cd" commands) 4) check using "dir" that two files are present XLC.dll and XLC.xll 5) register XLC.dll by typing "regsvr32 XLC.dll" into the command prompt window. - you should get a message saying you have succeeded in registering. 6) hopefully you can see the toolbar when you start Excel. PART 2 - check XLC.xll installation =================================== 7) In Excel go to Tools>Add-Ins... This displays the Add-ins form. 8) From the add-ins form select the browse button and navigate to your XLC installation directory. Select the xlc.xll and press 'OK'. This has manually installed xlc.xll 9) Close Excel and restart it again. PART 3 User Access ================== 10) Administrators have access to the program but to set the computer up for a particular user account sign in as a user and ask your administrator to run "XLC User Setup.exe".
