Calculation Preview

A very simple set of calculations to establish the maximum stress and deflection in flat plates under a variety of support and loading condtions. The calculations allow very convenient initial estimates of plates strengths to be carried out. (14 plate arrangements are included)

Purpose of Calculation
Calculation of maximum stress and deflection in thin plates under a variety of support and loading conditions

   Roymech.co.uk.  http://www.roymech.co.uk/Useful_Tables/Mechanics/Plates.html

Calculation Validation
The various calculations have been checked against other methods of calculating the  values (see my webpage)

Introduction

This page includes simple formula for the calculation of the maximum stress and deflection for thin flat plates under a variety of support and loading conditons.
The equations are only valid if the deflection is small compared to the plate thickness.equations are also only reasonably accurate if the thickness is less than 10% of the diameter.
The loading scenario for the simply supported rectangular plates assume that the upper edges of the loaded surface are restrained from lifting such that all of the edges are in contact during the the loading condition.

Try Excel 2013 for Free!

I am pleased to report that XLC Ribbon works with the 32bit and 64 bit versions of Excel 2013 obtained using the free Office 365 Home Premium Preview. Excel 2013 looks a little flat and dull compared to previous versions but I think this is the influence of the new Windows 8 'metro' look and f...
