Description



Structural analysis of 2D beam and frame problems. This version works in Excel 2007 and Excel 2010. Due to restrictions Excel 2003 (sheet size and limitations on matrix inversion functions) an Excel 2003 version of this file is availble but this version is no longer being maintained.

Hi Turan Babacan,
Nice upload.
I have some suggestions and comments that you may want to think about for the next version:
1. For sections, please add a user defined section that allows the user to directly enter the area, bending inertia, etc.. This would allow the user to enter section properties values of sections that are not an option in your section menu. For example, I have a rotated channel section were the flanges are vertical and the web is horizontal. This section is not available. No program can have all possible sections, but adding an option that allows the user to directly enter the section properties could work for any section. Also, the user would need to know the local beam coordinate system to put in proper bending inertia about the correct axis.
2. I recently made a symmetric model with symmetric loading and symmetric boundary conditions. However one of reactions (Fy) were not symmetric. All other reactions were symmetric as expected. Have you run a symmetric test case like this ?
3. In the materials data entry, the GAMMA parameter is not defined - what material property does this represent ? You may want to add comments to the excel cells to allow the user see what material property is required. For example - in some cells, a comment would explain that the coefficient of thermal expansion would be entered. For another cell, a comment could be used to explain that Young's modulus (E) is entered, same for material density, etc..
4. Please consider adding more boundary conditions. For example, I need the BC where the x and moment direction were constrained - for boundary condition 0Y0. This is not an option on the restraint pull-down selection. I wanted to model a roller that was rigid - allowing displacement in Y (vertical) direction but no rotation.
